FSC Chain of Custody

In 2011, CPC became a certified FSC approved company. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international not for profit, non-government organisation whose mission is to support environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economical viable management of the world’s forests.

Printing on FSC-certified papers is an effective way of demonstrating you or your client’s commitment to sustainability and saves forest, protects wildlife habitats and keeps water clean.

Why Choose FSC Certified Papers?

The presence of the Forest Stewardship Council Chain-of-Custody logo ensures that the materials used to produce the product or printed piece ie book, brochure, leaflet etc are sourced responsibly. To use the FSC label on your printed piece, your substrate must be tracked through the FSC Chain of Custody.

This means that every entity that touches the product – from logger to the printer- must be FSC certified. If you choose to print on an FSC paper this will entitle you to include and print the FSC label appropriate for that paper directly onto your project book, brochure, leaflet etc – thus promoting the environmental qualities of the paper and your company’s environmental awareness.

CPC have a range of FSC certified stocks available for your project and we can help you select the right FSC-certified paper that will meet your needs. To obtain a list of the current FSC certified stocks carried by CPC please visit our website: www.tcpc.co.uk. Additionally, please discuss this with your Account Director.

Categories of FSC label types:

There are three categories of FSC labels and 3 possible variations of the on Product Claim:

FSC - pure 100% label Containing nothing but fibre from 100% FSC certified forests

FSC - mixed label Containing a mix of FSC, post consumer waste and/or controlled wood

FSC - recycled label Product groups with 100% post consumer reclaimed fibre

Requirements for labelling your product FSC (On product Useage)

There is strict critiera that governs the graphical size, colour and placement of an FSC logo on your product and therefore it must be approved by the CPC Certifier and auditing body before going to press. The actual language and claim on your label will depend on the paper stock you use. Therefore, all labels must meet these requirements:

  • FSC Logo (this includes the FSC initials, the tick mark and copyright symbol)
  • FSC Website address
  • Label Title
  • Label text ( with product type, if required)
  • CPC’s COC certification Number
  • Product Type – when required

Positive green is the standard preferred colour for the FSC label. However, negative green and black and white (positive or negative) may be used as an alternative.

The font used for FSC labels is Arial Unicode MS

FSC labels may be used in portrait or landscape versions

Minimum size for the portrait label is 17mm in width

Minimum size for the landscape label is 12mm in height

There shall be enough clear space surrounding the label to ensure that the label remains uncluttered.

The minimum space is calculated by using the height of the FSC initials of the logo

Guidelines for Printing with the FSC logo

If you are considering using certified paper and want to use the FSC logo for an upcoming job then follow these simple guidelines:

  • Let your CPC Account Director know that you want to run your next job FSC
  • When designing your project, be sure to leave enough room for the FSC logo, which CPC will place into your artwork file for you. It is a requirement of our certification that we place the appropriate logo with our certification code directly into your file. Your CPC Account Director can provide you with an FSC Product label Selection worksheet of available logo dimensions, orientations and colours to choose from.
  • You will then receive a proof of your job. Additionally, a copy of the page containing the FSC logo will be sent to our certifier, who will verify that the correct FSC claim label is being used on your project and that the logo standards are being met. NB: The Logo approval process takes approx 36 hours.
  • Once approved, your files will be released for printing, subject to your proof approval.
  • Once the project is printed, it will be invoiced with the invoice denoting that your project was printed with FSC-Certified logos
